South Africa prepares to go to polls

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress faces its most competitive electoral challenge since the end of apartheid in 1994. Ramaphosa is looking to win a second term as president as Africa’s most industrialised country prepares to hold its closest poll for three decades.

Ramaphosa acknowledged the government’s failings and “reversals” on service delivery. Ramaphosa said his party was looking to win decisively in order to deliver on its promises to tackle crime, corruption and electricity shortages but South African citizens are not happy about the unfulfilled promises from the political parties.
