The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it wants to ensure optimum numbers of eligible South Africans registered to vote on the final voter registration weekend on the 3rd and 4th of February and has further committed to deliver a better registration weekend as opposed to the last one held in November.

Last year, disgruntled protesters blocked some registration stations and prevented people who were eager to register to vote- something the IEC wants to prevent from happening again.

The last registration drive resulted in the IEC interacting with over 2 million voters. The voter’s roll currently stands at 26.8 million up from 26.2 million people.
