Russian electoral authority officially declares Putin winner in presidential poll

On Thursday, the Russian electoral authority officially ratified the results of the 2024 presidential election, declaring the incumbent President Vladimir Putin as the victor, with 76.3 million individuals expressing their confidence in his leadership.

Ella Pamfilova, the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), announced during a press conference in Moscow that over 87.5 million citizens participated in the three-day voting period from March 15 to 17.

“The final turnout for the Russian Federation’s presidential elections stood at 77.49%. A total of 87,576,075 voters participated in the elections,” she stated, highlighting this as an unprecedented figure in modern Russian history.

Following the tallying of all ballots, Russian President Vladimir Putin garnered 87.28% of the vote, equivalent to nearly 76.3 million votes, Pamfilova reported. Nikolay Kharitonov, the nominee of the Communist Party, secured the second position with 4.31% of the vote, representing over 3.7 million voters.

Vladislav Davankov, candidate of the New People political party, received 3.3 million votes, constituting 3.85% of all votes cast. Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democrat Party of Russia, attained 3.2% of the vote, with nearly 2.8 million individuals casting their ballots for him. Pamfilova asserted that the election campaign was conducted “with high quality, ensuring a transparent vote count.”
