Next G7 Summit Scheduled for Evian in the French Alps, President Macron Announces

France will host the upcoming G7 summit in June 2026 at the Alpine resort town of Evian-les-Bains, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday. He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and collaborating closely with trusted partners to have a stronger global influence.

The summit will bring together leaders from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, and the European Union from June 14 to 16, according to French officials.

Evian, located on the shores of Lake Geneva near the Swiss border, previously hosted the G7 in 2003. That summit is notable for Russia’s first invitation to join, expanding the group to the G8.

However, Russia was expelled in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump called the exclusion a mistake, highlighting divisions among longstanding allies.

When asked if next year’s summit might be a G6 after Trump’s unexpected early departure from this year’s meeting in Canada, Macron rejected the idea that Trump was disengaged.

“I wouldn’t describe it as an empty-chair policy. He participated, including in key discussions,” Macron said. “He missed only one G7 session, and we covered all topics, even over dinner. It wouldn’t be fair or respectful to Canada’s presidency to suggest otherwise.”

Macron also indicated that next year’s summit will involve new formats.
