Epstein, a wealthy financier with ties to global elites, died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, sparking widespread scrutiny and conspiracy theories. His death was ruled a suicide, but questions surrounding his prosecution and alleged protection by influential figures have persisted.

Republicans say the Clintons’ refusal to testify raises serious transparency concerns, while Democrats accuse the committee of using the Epstein case to target political opponents ahead of elections. Legal experts note that contempt proceedings against former presidents are rare and largely symbolic, though they can carry political consequences.
