Addressing world leaders, President Mnangagwa highlighted Zimbabwe’s social and economic progress, announcing that the country has successfully reduced its poverty rate by nearly half since 1995 one of the most remarkable achievements in poverty reduction across Africa in recent decades.

The President emphasized the urgent need for global reforms to address inequality, mounting debt, and the imbalance of power within international institutions. He underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and global cooperation, asserting that progress in Africa must be matched by fairer global economic structures.

In a bold statement, President Mnangagwa also revealed Zimbabwe’s intention to seek a non permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. He said the move reflects Zimbabwe’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to international peace, security, and development.

The Doha summit brought together global leaders to discuss strategies for reducing poverty, promoting equality, and fostering global solidarity themes that resonated strongly with Zimbabwe’s message of shared progress and reform.

Zambia-Israel Relations Enter New Chapter as Embassy Reopens After 50 Years https://ln24international.com/2025/08/21/zambia-israel-relations-enter-new-chapter-as-embassy-reopens-after-50-years/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=zambia-israel-relations-enter-new-chapter-as-embassy-reopens-after-50-years https://ln24international.com/2025/08/21/zambia-israel-relations-enter-new-chapter-as-embassy-reopens-after-50-years/#respond Thu, 21 Aug 2025 07:55:27 +0000 https://ln24international.com/?p=26832 In a significant diplomatic development, Israel has officially reopened its embassy in Zambia, more than five decades after it was closed. The move marks a major step toward deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, hailed the reopening as a sign of “renewed and strengthened commitment” between the two nations. Speaking at the ceremony in Lusaka, Haimbe noted that the development reflects shared goals in trade, agriculture, science, health, and culture.

The embassy’s reopening also gives new momentum to the 2023 General Framework Agreement of Cooperation signed between Zambia and Israel. The agreement lays out a roadmap for enhanced economic and social collaboration.

“This is more than a diplomatic milestone it’s the beginning of a deeper and more meaningful partnership,” said Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, who described the event as a “new chapter” in Zambia-Israel relations.

Israel’s Ambassador to Zambia, Ofra Farhi, also expressed enthusiasm and pride, saying the reopening represents the culmination of “months of dedicated work and mutual goodwill.”

Background:

Israel first opened its embassy in Zambia in the 1960s but closed it during the early 1970s amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and changing alliances in post colonial Africa. Relations between the two nations have improved significantly in recent years, driven by mutual interests in innovation, development, and security.

The renewed diplomatic presence is expected to facilitate government to government cooperation and pave the way for private sector investments, especially in technology and agricultural development.
