Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held high level engagements during the forum, emphasizing the importance of deepening strategic ties between Egypt and Russia. Both leaders underscored the need for sustained collaboration across key sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure, and development.

The forum brought together representatives from more than 50 countries, alongside regional, continental, and international organizations. Delegates engaged in discussions focused on expanding investment opportunities and boosting trade relations through a mutually beneficial and inclusive approach.

According to participants, the outcomes of the forum are aimed at supporting sustainable development across Africa while advancing the goals of Africa’s Agenda 2063, the African Union’s long term blueprint for economic growth, integration, and prosperity.

The Russia–Africa Forum highlighted a shared vision for enhanced cooperation, with stakeholders stressing the importance of partnerships that promote economic diversification, industrial growth, and long-term development across the continent. The meeting also reinforced Africa’s growing role in global economic and geopolitical discussions.

The deal includes expanded trade across key sectors such as mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development, and features a landmark commitment to explore civilian nuclear energy in Mali a first for the West African nation.

Under the agreement, Russia’s state-owned nuclear agency Rosatom will conduct feasibility studies for the construction of Mali’s first nuclear power plant. The proposed facility would focus on low-emission energy solutions aimed at addressing Mali’s chronic power shortages and dependence on fossil fuels.

“This is a historic step forward in our cooperation with Russia,” Goita said in a statement following the talks. “It reflects Mali’s determination to diversify its energy sources and strategic partnerships.”

For Russia, the deal further cements its growing influence in Africa, particularly in regions where Western presence has receded. The development follows the withdrawal of French troops from Mali and ongoing international criticism of the military government’s political trajectory.

President Vladimir Putin praised the agreements, saying they would “strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote sustainable development in Mali.”
