Syria’s Interior Ministry confirmed on Sunday evening that security forces had started entering Raqqa to prepare for an organized deployment across all neighbourhoods, aimed at restoring stability and protecting public and private property.

According to a ministry statement, the deployment is part of a broader plan to impose security, safeguard citizens, and normalize daily life after years of fragmented authority. The move follows a ceasefire and full integration deal announced by President Ahmad al-Sharaa after weeks of escalating military tensions between government forces and the SDF, which has controlled large swathes of territory east of the Euphrates River since the fight against Islamic State.

Under the terms of the agreement, the SDF will withdraw its military formations east of the Euphrates and hand over both administrative and security control of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to the Syrian state. Raqqa, once the self declared capital of Islamic State, has been under SDF control since 2017, while Deir ez-Zor remains a strategically vital region due to its oil resources and proximity to Iraq.

Syrian officials say the agreement represents a step toward restoring national sovereignty and ending parallel governing structures that emerged during the civil war. The government has pledged that state institutions will resume services in the reclaimed areas, while working to prevent reprisals and ensure stability for local communities.

The ceasefire deal is widely seen as one of the most significant political and military developments in Syria in recent years, potentially reshaping the balance of power in the country’s northeast. Regional observers say its success will depend on sustained cooperation, security guarantees, and the reintegration of local forces into state structures amid ongoing regional and international pressures.
