Commander of U.S. Base in Greenland Dismissed After VP Vance's Visit

The U.S. military has dismissed the commander of a Space Force base in Greenland following a visit by Vice President JD Vance, stating that actions undermining President Donald Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated.

Colonel Susan Myers was relieved of her duties after an email surfaced in which she appeared to challenge comments made by Vance during his visit to Pituffik Space Base last month. The Pentagon did not provide specific details about her conduct but cited a “loss of trust and confidence” in her leadership.

During his visit, Vance accused Denmark of failing to defend Greenland from “aggressive incursions” by Russia, China, and other countries—though he did not elaborate on these claims.

In response, Myers wrote, “I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base,” according to a report by military.com.

President Trump has long claimed that the United States has a strategic interest in acquiring Greenland, which has been governed by Denmark since 1721.

A Pentagon spokesperson said in a statement that any effort to disrupt the chain of command or challenge President Trump’s agenda would not be tolerated within the Department of Defense.

Since Trump’s return to office in January, several high-ranking military officials have been removed in what appears to be a broader shake-up of national security leadership. Those dismissed include the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Navy’s top admiral, and several senior military legal advisors.

In a separate development earlier this week, the Pentagon also confirmed the firing of Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, a senior official in NATO.

U.S. military officers are expected to remain apolitical and uphold their duty to the Constitution.
