Trump Says He Urged Netanyahu to Allow Urgent Aid into Gaza Amid Deepening Crisis

U.S. President Donald Trump said he urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to permit the delivery of food and medical supplies into the heavily damaged Gaza Strip.

Since March 2, no humanitarian aid has been allowed into Gaza, with Israeli authorities maintaining the blockade until Hamas releases all remaining hostages.

Earlier in the day, the U.N.’s World Food Programme announced it had exhausted its food reserves in the region.

Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump confirmed that the situation in Gaza was discussed during his recent call with Netanyahu. “Gaza came up and I said, ‘We’ve got to be good to Gaza… Those people are suffering,’” he said.

When pressed on whether the topic of opening access points for aid was raised, Trump said, “We are. We’re going to take care of that. There’s a very big need for food and medicine, and we’re taking care of it.” He described Netanyahu’s response to the request as positive.

The ongoing conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas carried out a deadly attack in southern Israel, resulting in around 1,200 deaths and the abduction of approximately 251 people, according to Israeli reports. In the months since, over 51,300 Palestinians have lost their lives, according to Gaza health officials.

On Friday, U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with hunger and malnutrition worsening, and many injured or ill individuals unable to receive care.
