Brazil, China Sign $1 Billion Green Fuel Deal During Lula Visit

Brazil announced two new partnerships with Chinese companies on Monday, including a $1 billion investment from Envision Energy to produce sustainable aviation fuel using sugarcane.

The announcement came as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited China and held meetings with energy firms, automaker GAC, and defense company Norinco.

Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira said Brazil is also pursuing Chinese investment in digital infrastructure, including data centers. He confirmed a meeting with TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is scheduled for Tuesday, amid reports the firm is considering building facilities at the Port of Pecém in Ceará state.

Silveira said the government is working to enhance infrastructure around the port, where TikTok has a planned investment of 50 billion reais ($8.82 billion).

In a separate agreement, Chinese state-owned Windey Energy Technology will collaborate with Brazilian research institute Senai Cimatec to develop renewable energy solutions, including storage technologies.
