Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to deepening its relationship with China, describing bilateral ties as a foundation that must be “cultivated generation after generation.”
Speaking during a recent high-level engagement with Chinese officials, PM Wong expressed optimism about the continued evolution of Singapore China relations, stressing that both countries are “well-positioned to explore new and forward-looking areas of cooperation.”
Wong identified key areas such as the digital economy, technology innovation, and sustainable development as priorities for future collaboration. He emphasized that while the bilateral relationship has been anchored historically by strong economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties, it must remain adaptable in the face of global shifts.
“The relationship must not only be built on past successes but also be dynamic enough to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world,” Wong said.
The remarks come as both countries mark new milestones in strategic cooperation, including digital trade agreements and regional development initiatives under China’s Belt and Road framework.
Observers note that under Wong’s leadership, Singapore is looking to reinforce its position as a neutral and innovative hub in Asia, maintaining close ties with major powers while advancing its national interests in a complex geopolitical landscape.
