Former Deputy President David Mabuza has passed away at the age of 64.
His death was confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) by ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who expressed deep sorrow over the news. In his tribute, Mbalula described Mabuza as a lifelong servant of the people, noting his contributions from the anti-apartheid struggle to his leadership roles as Premier of Mpumalanga and later as Deputy President of South Africa.
Mbalula praised Mabuza’s dedication to unity, discipline, and transformation, and extended condolences to his family, friends, comrades, and all South Africans.
He remembered Mabuza as a patriot and humble leader, urging the nation to honour his legacy by continuing the pursuit of a united, democratic, and inclusive South Africa.
