Yoon Suk Yeol Indicted Again as Probe into Martial Law Declaration Deepens

Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is currently imprisoned, has been indicted on new charges as a special investigation into his brief declaration of martial law last December continues.

The additional accusations include abusing his authority to obstruct others’ rights, ordering the deletion of official records, and interfering with the enforcement of arrest warrants, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.

Yoon is already facing trial for insurrection, a crime that carries the possibility of the death penalty or life imprisonment. Since June, a special prosecutor has been handling his case and has added further charges against him.

Yoon denies all allegations, and his legal team has yet to comment on the recent developments.

The former president, who was impeached and removed from office, has been held at the Seoul Detention Center since earlier this month. A court recently denied his request for release from custody.
