President Trump on Monday requested that a U.S. judge order Rupert Murdoch to give a deposition within 15 days in connection with the former president’s defamation lawsuit over a July 17 article discussing Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender.
Filed on July 18, the lawsuit targets the publication, its parent company, and the journalists behind the story, which claimed Trump’s name appeared on a 2003 birthday card sent to Epstein. The card allegedly included a provocative sketch and a comment alluding to shared secrets.
In the court filing, Trump’s legal team emphasized the urgency of deposing the 94-year-old media mogul, citing his age. The publisher of the article has previously stated it stands by the reporting and intends to fight the legal challenge.
