A U.S. House committee has requested that the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch (owned by Amazon), and Reddit appear at a hearing on October 8 to discuss the growing issue of online radicalisation.
Representative James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, announced the hearing in response to the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk.
He emphasised that, in light of this incident and other politically driven acts of violence, it is Congress’s responsibility to examine how online platforms may be contributing to the spread of extremist ideologies.
