Trump expressed support on Wednesday for Nasry Asfura of Honduras’ conservative National Party ahead of Sunday’s presidential vote, saying he sees Asfura as a partner in efforts to combat drug trafficking.
“I hope the people of Honduras vote for Freedom and Democracy, and elect Tito Asfura, President!” Trump said on Truth Social.
The November 30 election is still highly competitive, with surveys indicating a near three-way tie among the leading contenders: Rixi Moncada of the governing left-leaning LIBRE party, former Tegucigalpa mayor Asfura of the National Party, and television personality Salvador Nasralla of the centrist Liberal Party.
