The U.S. Justice Department has released thousands of documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, revealing references to many prominent public figures, including former President Bill Clinton. The materials contain few, if any, references to President Donald Trump, a point that has drawn public attention.
The release, made on Friday, represents only part of the Epstein-related records held by the department. Much of the content is heavily redacted, with officials citing the need to protect victims’ identities and the time required to review sensitive material. The disclosure follows a law passed by Congress in November mandating the release of Epstein files.
The absence of references to Trump is notable because earlier document releases over the years included photos and records linking him socially to Epstein, including flight manifests from Epstein’s private plane. Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing and has said he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal conduct.
The newly released materials include documents from past investigations and photographs of well-known figures such as Walter Cronkite, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Richard Branson, Sarah Ferguson, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York. Many images are undated and lack context, and none of the individuals pictured have been charged with crimes related to Epstein.
Several files are extensively redacted, with some entirely blacked out. The Justice Department said it is still reviewing hundreds of thousands of additional pages. Some victims and lawmakers criticised the limited disclosure, arguing it leaves key questions unanswered.
