Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has officially announced that Cambodia will join the newly established Board of Peace, an international peace-building body initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a significant step in the country’s engagement in global diplomacy.

The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, to the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on January 26. Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that Cambodia accepted President Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace as a founding member and to sign the organization’s charter.

In his remarks, Hun Manet emphasized that Cambodia’s participation reflects the country’s goodwill and its longstanding commitment to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation at the international level. He said Cambodia views the Board of Peace as an important platform for advancing dialogue and conflict resolution in accordance with international law.

President Trump formally extended the invitation in a letter dated January 16, inviting Cambodia to take part in the new body, which aims to support peace-building initiatives and global security efforts. The Board of Peace was announced earlier this month, with more than 25 countries reportedly accepting invitations to participate.

During the meeting, Admiral Paparo welcomed Cambodia’s decision and expressed satisfaction at renewing engagement with the Prime Minister during his second official visit to the country. He highlighted the progress made in U.S.–Cambodia relations, particularly in the area of national defense cooperation, and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening ties with Phnom Penh.

Cambodia’s decision to join the Board of Peace comes amid broader efforts to enhance its diplomatic profile and expand cooperation with international partners on security and development issues.
