China has announced a sweeping new trade initiative that will remove tariffs on imports from 53 African nations that maintain diplomatic relations with Beijing, in a move aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and expanding access to the Chinese market.

The policy was confirmed by Wang Yi and supported by Xi Jinping as part of China’s broader strategy to deepen trade partnerships with countries across the African continent. The zero tariff plan will apply to a wide range of goods, including agricultural products, industrial materials, and raw resources exported from Africa to China.

Officials say the initiative is designed to boost trade flows and encourage economic development by giving African exporters greater access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets. Analysts note that the policy could significantly increase export opportunities for African producers while strengthening Beijing’s economic ties with the continent.

The zero tariff policy will apply to all 53 African countries that currently maintain diplomatic relations with China. The only exception is Eswatini, which maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan instead of Beijing.

China has become one of Africa’s largest trading partners over the past two decades, investing heavily in infrastructure, energy, and development projects across the continent. The new tariff policy is expected to further expand trade volumes while reinforcing China’s economic presence in Africa.

Economists say the initiative could reshape trade dynamics by encouraging African nations to increase exports to China and diversify their economic partnerships, while also deepening cooperation between Beijing and African governments in areas such as manufacturing, agriculture, and industrial development.
