Trump Says South Africa Will Not Be Invited to 2026 G20 Summit

Trump stated on Wednesday that South Africa would not be invited to take part in the G20 summit scheduled to be held in Florida next year, following the U.S. decision to skip the recent leaders’ meeting in Johannesburg.

During the summit, the G20 agreed on a declaration addressing the climate crisis and other global issues despite objections from the United States. The White House later accused South Africa of using its role as this year’s chair to advance its own agenda.

“At the conclusion of the G20, South Africa refused to hand off the G20 Presidency to a Senior Representative from our U.S. Embassy, who attended the Closing Ceremony,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year,” he said.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that South Africa’s Black-led government targets the country’s white minority and that white farmers are facing genocide, assertions that have been broadly dismissed as unfounded.

South Africa’s presidency did not immediately provide a comment.
