U.S. President Donald Trump has hosted newly elected Honduran President Nasry Asfura at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, marking the first official engagement between the two leaders since Asfura’s election victory.
The meeting follows President Trump’s public endorsement of Asfura during the 2025 Honduran presidential campaign. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed credit for Asfura’s electoral success, stating that the Honduran leader won shortly after receiving his endorsement.
During the discussions, President Trump and President Asfura emphasized shared priorities centered on what Trump described as “America First values,” particularly cooperation on regional security. The leaders highlighted joint efforts to combat transnational crime, including drug trafficking networks, organized cartels, and violent gangs operating across Central America and the United States.
Migration and deportation policies were also key topics, with Trump stressing continued collaboration on the removal of undocumented migrants and gang members from the United States. In addition, both leaders discussed opportunities to expand U.S.–Honduras investment and trade, underscoring the importance of economic cooperation as part of broader regional stability.
The meeting signals a strengthening of bilateral ties between Washington and Tegucigalpa, with analysts noting that security, migration control, and economic engagement are likely to remain central pillars of the renewed U.S.–Honduran relationship under President Asfura’s leadership.
