Air Tanzania to Resume Flights to Russia on September 7 After Temporary Halt

Air Tanzania will resume direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Moscow on September 7, only hours after the airline announced a temporary suspension of the route beginning September 4.

The airline said the decision to briefly halt operations followed a routine risk assessment of the operating environment along the route. It did not provide specific details about the factors behind the suspension or the subsequent decision to restart services.

The rapid reversal comes amid heightened disruption at Moscow airports, where flights have faced repeated closures and restrictions in recent days linked to drone attacks. Flight-tracking data has shown significant disruption to aviation operations around the Russian capital.

Air Tanzania’s decision also follows a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who recently cautioned airlines and insurers that Russia’s airspace was becoming increasingly dangerous because of ongoing drone activity. Zelenskiy said Ukraine was not targeting civil aviation but warned that airlines needed to take the risks into account.

Russia has rejected those concerns. Russian transport authorities have said the country’s aviation infrastructure continues to operate and that foreign airlines are being briefed on safety measures.

The Dar es Salaam-Moscow route is strategically important for travel links between Tanzania and Russia. Air Tanzania only recently restored direct scheduled services between the two countries, with flights launched in July 2026 after a lengthy interruption.

The airline’s decision to resume operations highlights the continuing challenge faced by international carriers operating to Russia as they balance commercial demand with rapidly changing security and aviation conditions.

Air Tanzania is expected to continue monitoring the route and operating environment as it restores scheduled services on September 7.
