Trump Says Iran Conflict Could Be Resolved “Fairly Soon”.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that the conflict involving Iran could be resolved in the near future, raising hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough despite continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.

However, prospects for a quick settlement remain uncertain, with both countries maintaining competing demands and deep mistrust complicating negotiations. Recent reporting indicates that Iran has continued to engage through diplomatic channels while preparing for the possibility of renewed military action.

Strait of Hormuz Remains a Key Sticking Point

A major obstacle to ending the conflict is the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway through which a significant share of the world’s oil supplies normally passes.

Iran has sought concessions from Washington, including the lifting of its maritime blockade and relief from economic restrictions. The United States, meanwhile, has pressed for the restoration of safe and unrestricted shipping through the strait and progress on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Earlier diplomatic proposals explored a phased agreement that could reopen the waterway while easing restrictions on Iran. However, disagreements over the sequence of concessions and the terms of any lasting settlement have complicated efforts to reach an agreement.

Trump Says Outcome Is Coming Soon

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, October 21, Trump said the United States was not negotiating with Iran but expected a decisive development soon. He also suggested that the outcome could come after the November 3 U.S. midterm elections.

At a rally, Trump said the United States could end its military campaign immediately but wanted to ensure that the outcome would be lasting. He also claimed that Iran had been defeated militarily and financially, while reiterating that Tehran must never obtain a nuclear weapon. These were the president’s assertions, not independently established conclusions.

The comments come amid concerns that the conflict could escalate again. A report published on October 20 said Iranian officials believed Tehran was deliberately prolonging negotiations ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, while preparing for possible renewed American and Israeli attacks.

Global Economic Impact

The conflict has disrupted energy markets and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, increasing concerns about oil supplies, fuel prices and the wider global economy.

A lasting agreement could ease pressure on international energy markets and reduce regional security risks. However, continued uncertainty over military action, sanctions and freedom of navigation means that a swift resolution cannot yet be guaranteed.

For now, Trump’s remarks signal his expectation of a near-term outcome, but whether that outcome will be a peace agreement, a further military escalation or another prolonged stalemate remains unclear.
