US and Egypt Sign $125 Million Agreement to Boost Private-Sector Growth

The United States and Egypt have signed a $125 million economic cooperation agreement aimed at stimulating private-sector growth, expanding business opportunities and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, November 4, represents the first bilateral Strategic Objective Agreement between Washington and Cairo. It is designed to encourage American businesses to expand their presence in Egypt while supporting economic development and investment opportunities across key sectors.

The US Embassy in Cairo announced that the funding would support cooperation in agriculture, food security, education, healthcare, water security and workforce development.

Key Sectors Targeted for Investment

The partnership seeks to combine American technology and expertise with Egypt’s economic resources to modernise essential services, improve productivity and create employment opportunities.

Areas identified for cooperation include:

  • Agriculture and food security: Promoting modern agricultural technologies and improving food production.
  • Water and energy: Strengthening water management and improving essential infrastructure.
  • Education and healthcare: Supporting improvements in educational institutions and healthcare services.
  • Artificial intelligence and innovation: Encouraging technological development and innovation.
  • Workforce development: Strengthening professional skills and expanding employment opportunities.

The agreement also aims to improve the efficiency and accountability of US foreign assistance while strengthening Egypt’s economic self-reliance.

Strengthening US-Egypt Economic Relations

The signing ceremony was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman, alongside senior Egyptian government officials.

Egypt’s Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation, Samar El-Ahdal, signed the agreement on behalf of Cairo, while Silverman represented Washington.

The development builds on growing commercial relations between the two countries. Bilateral trade in goods and services reached an estimated $16.1 billion in 2025, reflecting an increase of approximately 28.9% compared with 2024.

The agreement signals a renewed commitment by both governments to expand economic cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic relations, with greater emphasis on private investment, technological development and sustainable economic growth.

For Egypt, the partnership offers an opportunity to attract international business, strengthen critical infrastructure and create jobs. For the United States, it provides an avenue to expand commercial opportunities in one of North Africa’s largest economies.
