ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile joins Easter celebrations at KwaSizabantu Mission in Greytown

Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal – As thousands of worshippers gathered to celebrate Easter Sunday, African National Congress (ANC) Deputy President Paul Mashatile joined the faithful at the KwaSizabantu Mission a spiritual and community beacon marking its 50th anniversary this year.

Mashatile, accompanied by his wife and senior ANC provincial leaders, addressed a large congregation at the renowned mission station nestled in the hills of KwaZulu-Natal. The Easter service drew thousands of Christians from across the province and beyond, all commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ in a spirit of unity and reflection.

In his address, Mashatile emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations, acknowledging the unique role institutions like KwaSizabantu play in community upliftment.

“In government, I am tasked with engaging churches and building partnerships,” said Mashatile. “We want to partner with places like KwaSizabantu, because they do more than just preach the Gospel — they equip people with life-changing skills and offer hope through practical support.”

KwaSizabantu Mission, established in 1973, has grown into more than just a spiritual refuge. It operates a variety of initiatives including schools, agricultural programs, and skills development projects that benefit the surrounding communities.

Mashatile’s visit highlights the ANC’s continued engagement with religious and civil society groups in pursuit of what he described as “a more cohesive and morally grounded nation.”

While the atmosphere was celebratory and spiritual, the Deputy President’s presence also signaled a political acknowledgment of the mission’s enduring impact over five decades.

Church leaders welcomed the government’s renewed interest in cooperation, emphasizing that holistic development both spiritual and economic remains at the heart of their mission.

As the service concluded with hymns and heartfelt prayers, many attendees expressed hope that such high-level visits would lead to tangible partnerships and renewed investment in rural communities.
