Denmark Pushes for Political Solution in Yemen, Warns UN Children Are at Risk

Denmark has urged the international community to intensify efforts toward a political solution in Yemen, warning the United Nations Security Council that escalating violence and worsening humanitarian conditions are placing Yemeni children at grave risk.

Addressing the Security Council, Denmark’s ambassador to the UN condemned the detention of UN staff by Houthi rebels and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation across the country. She said continued hostilities are deepening Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and undermining prospects for peace.

The envoy called for renewed political dialogue aimed at achieving a nationwide settlement and a comprehensive end to fighting. She emphasised that only an inclusive political process can bring lasting stability to Yemen after nearly a decade of conflict.

Denmark also highlighted the devastating impact of food shortages on Yemeni children, warning that malnutrition and hunger threaten an entire generation. She urged donor countries to step up humanitarian assistance and ensure sustained support for relief agencies operating in the country.

Yemen remains one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with millions facing acute food insecurity and limited access to healthcare. International aid agencies have repeatedly warned that funding shortfalls and continued fighting are pushing vulnerable populations closer to famine.

Denmark said protecting Yemen’s children must remain a global priority, calling on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and allow unimpeded access for aid deliveries.
