Namibian and Angolan Border Governors Deepen Cooperation After Week Long Agricultural Visit

Governors from northern Namibia have concluded a week long official visit to Angola aimed at strengthening cross border cooperation, particularly in agriculture and food security. The delegation, made up of four regional governors whose regions share borders with Angola, visited major agricultural projects in Angola’s Huila and Cunene provinces alongside experts from Namibia’s agricultural sector.

The visit focused on exchanging knowledge and best practices in crop production, irrigation, and rural development, as both countries seek to boost agricultural output amid climate pressures and rising food demand. Delegates were given firsthand exposure to Angola’s recent advancements in large-scale farming and agri-infrastructure, with discussions centering on how similar approaches could be adapted in northern Namibia.

Head of the Namibian delegation, Hofni Iipinge, said the visit underscored the strong historical and economic ties between Namibia and Angola. He noted that shared borders provide a strategic advantage for fast-tracking joint initiatives, not only in agriculture but also in fisheries, tourism, and trade. Iipinge emphasized that deeper cooperation could unlock regional growth and improve livelihoods in border communities on both sides.

Namibia and Angola have long maintained close diplomatic relations, shaped by shared liberation history and regional integration efforts under SADC. Officials say engagements such as this visit are part of broader efforts to strengthen regional self-sufficiency and cross-border development.
