The final session of the May edition of the Global Prayer and Fasting program with Pastor Chris Oyakhilome concluded with a strong message on spiritual authority, identity in Christ and the responsibility of Christians to reach the unsaved.
The global prayer gathering, attended online by millions of participants from different countries, focused on strengthening believers through prayer, worship and teachings from scripture.
During the closing session, Pastor Chris emphasized that Christians have divine authority to influence situations around them and take spiritual action where necessary.
“We do have authority to do what we are doing, and to take actions where necessary,” he said during the sermon.
Understanding the resurrected Christ
A major focus of the teaching centered on the believer’s relationship with Jesus Christ after His resurrection.
Referencing Ephesians 1:21-22, Pastor Chris spoke about the exalted position of Jesus Christ and the authority given to believers through Him.
He encouraged Christians to understand the distinction between Jesus during His earthly ministry and the resurrected Christ seated in heavenly authority.
“You have to understand the Jesus of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John versus the One who resurrected,” he said.
Pastor Chris also referenced John 17:1-5 while teaching about Christ’s glory and divine identity before and after His death and resurrection.
“He took your place so that you might take His,” he told the congregation, emphasizing the redemptive work of Christ and the believer’s spiritual position in Him.
“Take Jesus as your advantage”
The Loveworld President urged Christians to boldly live with the consciousness of Christ’s power working through them.
“Take Jesus as your advantage in your world,” he declared.
Quoting 2 Timothy 2:1, Pastor Chris encouraged believers to remain strong in the grace of God and to continually give attention to God’s Word.
“As a child of God, give attention to His Word; let no man deceive you,” he said.
The message also warned believers against spiritual distractions and false teachings, stressing the importance of staying grounded in scripture and prayer.
Prayer for cities and the unsaved
A significant part of the session focused on intercession for nations, cities, neighbours and unsaved individuals.
Pastor Chris urged participants to pray for the manifestation of God’s grace in their communities and in the lives of people around them.
“Pray for your neighbours, every unsaved person that is a friend, an acquaintance to you,” he said.
He reminded believers that they are God’s witnesses and representatives to those around them.
“You are God’s witness to them. You are God’s link to them,” he added.
The sermon concluded with a call for Christians to embrace their role in bringing salvation and hope to others.
“We are called savers from Mount Zion. He saved us and sent us to save others,” Pastor Chris declared.
