President Says Government Will Address Armed Groups Through State Authority

Iraq Reaffirms Commitment to Sovereignty and Regional Stability

Iraqi President Nizar Amidi has reaffirmed that placing all weapons exclusively under state control remains the most important security priority facing Iraq.

Speaking on the government’s security agenda, President Amidi said there would be no reversal of the policy, adding that the issue of armed groups would be addressed “wisely” and through state institutions.

The president also stated that Iran had received a letter from Baghdad emphasizing the need for negotiations concerning border security, national sovereignty, and the presence of armed factions.

President Amidi stressed that security in Iraq remains fragile and reiterated that Iraqi territory must not be used to threaten or harm neighboring countries.

His remarks underscore Baghdad’s continued efforts to strengthen state authority, enhance national security, and pursue regional stability through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
