Deadly Blaze Sweeps Through Almería Province
Investigation Underway Into Cause of Fast-Moving Wildfire
A fast moving wildfire in Almería Province has claimed the lives of 12 people, according to the Andalusian regional government.
Authorities confirmed the updated death toll early this morning after emergency crews discovered additional victims in areas affected by the blaze.
The fire broke out yesterday afternoon near Los Gallardos before spreading rapidly through the mountainous hamlet of Bédar, fuelled by dry vegetation and challenging conditions.
Emergency officials said six more bodies were recovered this morning, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12 after six victims were found overnight.
According to witness reports, the wildfire may have been sparked by a downed power line that ignited dry vegetation. However, authorities have stressed that the official cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation remains ongoing.
Emergency services continue to battle the blaze while assessing the extent of the damage and monitoring the affected areas for further risks.
