Former Leader Faces New Corruption Charges in Honduras

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández has returned to Honduras following a presidential pardon granted by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The pardon brought an end to Hernández’s imprisonment in the United States, where he had been serving a sentence on drug trafficking and weapons-related convictions.

Hernández arrived at Palmerola International Airport, where he was welcomed by family members and supporters. Speaking upon his arrival, he described his return as an emotional moment after spending several years away from his home country.

Despite his return, Hernández now faces new legal proceedings in Honduras. Prosecutors have brought corruption-related charges against the former president, including allegations of fraud and money laundering linked to the Pandora II investigation. He is expected to appear before a Honduran court next month.
