Marco Rubio Formalises Civil Nuclear Partnership With Paraguay

The United States and Paraguay have signed a Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant step in expanding bilateral cooperation on peaceful nuclear energy and strengthening long-term energy security.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Paraguayan Vice President Pedro Alliana formalised the agreement during a signing ceremony at the U.S. State Department in Washington.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Alliana said the partnership is built on shared values, including freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. He described the agreement as an important milestone in advancing cooperation between the two nations.

The memorandum forms part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to expand U.S. energy diplomacy and strengthen strategic partnerships around the world.

The agreement follows a separate civil nuclear cooperation framework recently signed between the United States and Saudi Arabia, which U.S. officials say is designed to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology while reinforcing international nuclear non-proliferation standards.

The latest partnership is expected to deepen cooperation in civil nuclear research, technology, training, and energy development, while supporting both countries’ long-term strategic and economic objectives.
