President Donald Trump is stepping up his campaign efforts for Republican candidates as the November 2026 midterm elections approach, promising to travel extensively to competitive states and districts in an effort to help the party retain control of Congress.
Trump told congressional Republicans at a White House dinner on Wednesday that he would campaign for them “100%” through the November election. He identified roughly 35 key races that he believes could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill.
The president has already begun appearing at campaign events, including stops in Texas and South Carolina, where he backed Republican candidates. Further appearances are planned, including support for Republican Senator Dan Sullivan in Alaska. Trump is also scheduled to play a prominent role at the Republican Party’s upcoming midterm convention in Dallas.
The campaign push comes as Republicans face a difficult political environment. The GOP currently holds narrow majorities in Congress, making a relatively small number of competitive House and Senate contests potentially decisive. Democrats are seeking to capitalize on concerns over the economy, inflation and the ongoing conflict with Iran as they attempt to regain congressional control.
Trump’s involvement could provide Republican candidates with access to his highly loyal political base and fundraising network. His political operation also controls a substantial financial war chest, with MAGA Inc. holding more than $400 million, although Republican candidates and strategists have been pressing Trump to deploy more of those funds in competitive races.
However, Trump’s low approval ratings present a significant challenge. Some Republican candidates in competitive states and districts have begun reducing the prominence of Trump in their campaign messaging, seeking to appeal to independent and moderate voters while still maintaining support among the Republican base.
The November 3 midterms will therefore serve as an important test of Trump’s influence over the Republican Party and whether his political brand can translate into victories for GOP candidates beyond the presidential ballot.
