Abu Dhabi’s IRH Seeks Further Mining Investments in Zambia

Abu Dhabi based International Resources Holding (IRH) is working with Zambia’s state owned ZCCM Investments Holdings to identify additional mining opportunities, building on the Emirati company’s commitment to invest $1.1 billion in the revival of Mopani Copper Mines.

Abu Dhabi-based International Resources Holding (IRH) is seeking to expand its mining investments in Zambia through a joint effort with state owned ZCCM Investments Holdings to identify new opportunities in the country’s mining sector.

The development comes two years after IRH pledged $1.1 billion to help revive Mopani Copper Mines, one of Zambia’s key copper producers. The latest initiative signals continued interest from the United Arab Emirates in Zambia’s mineral resources and the potential for further investment in the country’s copper industry.

Zambia is one of Africa’s leading copper producers, and the metal remains central to its economy, supporting export earnings, employment and government revenue. Copper is also increasingly important to global industries linked to electrification, renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles.

Through their collaboration, IRH and ZCCM Investments Holdings are looking for additional mining assets and opportunities that could support production growth and strengthen Zambia’s position in international mineral markets.

ZCCM Investments Holdings plays a significant role in Zambia’s mining industry through its interests in strategic mining assets. Partnerships with international investors can provide capital, technical expertise and operational support, while offering opportunities to expand production and develop existing resources.

For IRH, further investments in Zambia would build on its existing involvement in the country’s copper sector. For Zambia, attracting additional investment could help support the development of its mineral resources and reinforce the mining industry’s contribution to economic growth.

The search for new assets comes amid growing global demand for copper, a key material used in power grids, construction, electronics and clean-energy technologies. The scale and timing of any additional investments will depend on the opportunities identified and the terms of potential agreements.
