A man carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can was shot and killed after breaching the secure perimeter at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, according to authorities.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that its agents, along with a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, responded after security personnel detected an individual entering the restricted area of the property.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said that a deputy and two Secret Service agents moved to investigate the breach when the suspect entered the club’s secure perimeter. During the confrontation, law enforcement officers opened fire, fatally wounding the individual.
Officials stated that no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident. The Secret Service also confirmed that President Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago at the time of the security breach.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing. Law enforcement agencies are expected to review surveillance footage and examine the weapon recovered at the scene as part of standard procedure.
Mar-a-Lago, located in Palm Beach, Florida, is frequently secured by federal and local law enforcement due to its association with the former president and its status as a protected site.
Further details are expected as investigators continue to assess the events leading up to the shooting.
