Gold Board Expects 2026 Production to Match or Exceed Historic 2025 Levels
Small-Scale Mining Continues to Drive Ghana’s Gold Industry
Ghana is on course to match or surpass its record artisanal gold production from 2025, according to the country’s Ghana Gold Board.
The Gold Board’s Chief Executive Officer said the state agency purchased up to 54 metric tonnes of gold from the artisanal and small-scale mining sector during the first half of 2026, putting production on track for another record-breaking year.
Artisanal and small scale mining continues to play a significant role in Ghana’s gold industry, contributing substantially to national output, export earnings, and employment across the country.
Officials say the strong performance reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the sector through improved regulation, formalisation, and enhanced gold purchasing mechanisms.
If current production trends continue through the remainder of the year, Ghana’s artisanal gold output is expected to equal or exceed the record level achieved in 2025, further reinforcing the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading gold producers.
