‘BIG MUMMY’ REMEMBERED FOR HER FAITH, LOVE AND MATRIARCHAL LEADERSHIP
The LoveWorld Nation is celebrating the life and legacy of Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, affectionately known as “Big Mummy,” the mother of the man of God, Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome.
Deaconess Angel passed on to glory at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love and service to the Lord Jesus Christ.
She was married to Elder T.E. Oyakhilome, a pioneer of the Assemblies of God Church in Benin City. Together, they raised seven children, all of whom have dedicated their lives to serving the Lord Jesus Christ and hold senior positions in ministry.
A MOTHER TO MANY
Beyond her role as a mother, Deaconess Angel became a matriarch to many within the ministry, offering guidance, encouragement and support to those who sought her counsel.
Her dedication to the work of the Lord was recognised through special commendation awards presented at the LoveWorld Presidential Awards. The honours recognised her tireless support for the growth and impact of the ministry over the years.
Her life was marked by a commitment to raising a family grounded in the Word of God and dedicated to the Gospel.
IN CHRIST, WE NEVER LOSE’
Pastor Chris also shared a Kingdom perspective on his mother’s transition, emphasising the Christian understanding of death as a transition for those who are in Christ.
He explained that he did not view his mother as having been lost, because, in Christ, believers do not ultimately lose those who have gone to be with the Lord.
Rather, he described her transition as her moving from being absent from the body to being present with the Lord.
The message reflected the family’s faith and hope in the eternal life promised to believers in Christ.
PASTOR CHRIS REMEMBERS HIS MOTHER
Announcing her passing to the LoveWorld Nation, Pastor Chris spoke of the significant role his mother played in shaping his life and ministry.
He said Deaconess Angel played an integral part in his ministry by raising him and his siblings in a home that nurtured their love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Pastor Chris also shared that he often took time to tell his mother how much he appreciated her commitment to raising him and his siblings in the ways of the Lord.
Her influence extended beyond her immediate family, with many remembering her as a source of wisdom, warmth and spiritual guidance.
A LEGACY OF LOVE
Deaconess Angel will be remembered for the exemplary matriarchal leadership she provided to many who came to her for guidance.
For those who knew her as “Big Mummy,” her warmth and affection became part of her enduring legacy. Her signature parting words, “I love you,” remain a cherished memory for many.
Her life leaves behind a testimony of faith, family and service to the Lord, as the LoveWorld Nation joins the Oyakhilome family in celebrating the life she lived and the impact she made on generations.

Funeral arrangements are currently under deliberation as the family prepares for her sendoff.
