Houthis Renew Warning to Airlines and Travellers Against Using Saudi Airports

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement has renewed its warning to airlines, airport workers and travellers against using Saudi Arabian airports and airspace following a deadly attack on Riyadh’s international airport that killed 12 people.

In a statement on Sunday, the group urged aviation companies and travellers to take its warning seriously, claiming that Saudi Arabia bore responsibility for failed interceptions during the latest attack.

Deadly Riyadh Airport Attack Raises Security Concerns

The warning follows Saturday’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which left at least 12 people dead and more than 300 injured, according to Saudi authorities.

The incident was the third attack on the airport during the week, intensifying concerns over the safety of civilian aviation and the kingdom’s ability to protect critical infrastructure.

Airport operations were suspended following the latest strike, with flights diverted or cancelled as emergency services responded to the casualties.

Airlines Suspend Flights Amid Escalating Threats

The escalating security situation has prompted international airlines to review their operations in Saudi Arabia. Lufthansa Group and several Indian carriers had already suspended or cancelled flights to Riyadh following earlier Houthi threats and attacks.

The renewed warning is likely to deepen uncertainty for passengers, airlines and airport personnel as regional hostilities intensify.

Regional Conflict Threatens Civilian Aviation

The latest developments highlight the growing risks to commercial aviation as the conflict involving the Houthis, Saudi Arabia and their respective allies escalates.

The attacks have raised concerns about the vulnerability of airports and other civilian infrastructure to missile and drone strikes. International governments and aviation authorities face mounting pressure to assess security risks and protect travellers.

Passengers planning to travel through Saudi Arabia are advised to check directly with their airlines and consult official government travel advisories before departing, as flight schedules and airport access may change at short notice.
