President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Cast Their Ballots in Jerusalem

Israeli President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog cast their ballots in Jerusalem on Tuesday as millions of Israelis headed to polling stations for the country’s parliamentary elections.

The presidential couple voted in the Rehavia neighbourhood of Jerusalem, joining citizens across the country in choosing representatives for the 26th Knesset, Israel’s 120-member parliament.

Following the vote, President Herzog encouraged Israelis to participate in the democratic process, describing Election Day as an opportunity for citizens to make their voices heard and help shape the country’s future.

Herzog also expressed hope that the election would be a celebration of democracy, free from disruptions or attempts to undermine the voting process. He highlighted the importance of national unity, reminding Israelis that, despite political differences, they share a common future.

The election is taking place amid intense political competition, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership facing a significant test. Voters are weighing issues including national security, government accountability, military service and the country’s direction following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks and subsequent regional conflicts.

With millions eligible to vote, the participation of the president and first lady added to the day’s prominent election moments. Attention now turns to voter turnout, the official results and the coalition negotiations that will determine Israel’s next government.

The outcome is expected to shape the country’s domestic priorities, security policies and international relations in the months ahead.
