UK refuses to sign global vaccine treaty, The Telegraph reports

uk refuses to sign global vaccine treaty

The UK is reportedly balking at signing the World Health Organization’s (WHO) pandemic accord due to concerns that it would entail relinquishing a significant portion of its vaccine stockpile, as per a report by the Telegraph.

A draft of the accord, currently under negotiation at the WHO, suggests that wealthier nations should contribute by earmarking 20% of their tests, treatments, and vaccines for distribution by the WHO in poorer countries during crises.

A spokesperson for Britain’s Department of Health and Social Care emphasized that the UK’s support for the accord hinges on its alignment with national interests and respect for national sovereignty. However, they refrained from delving into specifics regarding the proposed provisions, stating that no agreements have been finalized.
