Kenya and Germany Pledge Stronger Ties During Joint Media Briefing in Nairobi

Kenya and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following high-level talks in Nairobi, as Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, began a two-day official visit to the country. The discussions culminated in a joint media briefing at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS), where both sides emphasized closer cooperation across political, economic and development sectors.

Minister Wadephul, who arrived accompanied by a German business delegation, held bilateral talks with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi before paying a courtesy call on President William Ruto. Officials said the meetings focused on expanding trade and investment, strengthening development partnerships, and enhancing collaboration on regional and global issues.

Germany is one of Kenya’s longstanding development partners, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, renewable energy, climate action, education and vocational training. During the briefing, both countries highlighted the importance of private-sector engagement and technology transfer as key drivers of sustainable growth and job creation in Kenya.

The visit comes amid Kenya’s push to attract foreign investment and deepen ties with European partners, while Germany continues to strengthen its engagement in Africa as part of its broader foreign policy strategy. Officials noted that shared priorities such as climate resilience, economic diversification and regional stability remain central to the partnership.

Both sides expressed optimism that the renewed commitments would translate into concrete projects and long-term benefits for their citizens, underscoring the strategic nature of Kenya–Germany relations in an increasingly interconnected global environment.
