Iranians in several cities around the world have held celebratory gatherings following reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint U.S.–Israeli military strikes over the weekend.
On Saturday, forces from the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes inside Iran targeting senior leadership and strategic infrastructure. Following the announcement of Khamenei’s death, videos circulated on social media showing groups of Iranians singing and dancing in public spaces, with some performing to the song “YMCA” while mimicking the signature dance moves often associated with President Donald Trump.
Celebrations were reported in parts of Europe, including outside the Israeli embassy in Berlin, Germany, where large crowds gathered waving flags and chanting slogans calling for a new future for Iran. Participants described the moment as symbolic, expressing hope that the end of the long standing leadership would open the door to political change.
Analysts note that reactions among Iranians globally have been deeply divided. While some view the development as an opportunity for transformation, others fear further instability or prolonged conflict in the region. Inside Iran, communications disruptions and heightened security have limited clear reporting on domestic reactions.
The developments come amid the expanding military confrontation between Washington, Tel Aviv, and Tehran, which has already triggered regional unrest and market volatility. International leaders have urged restraint as the situation continues to evolve.
