U.S. Vice President JD Vance says the United States has destroyed Iran’s nuclear programme and significantly weakened the country’s military capabilities.

In a recent interview, Vance said U.S. military operations had also destroyed what he described as Iran’s conventional military capabilities and substantially reduced its asymmetric military capabilities.

The Vice President said Washington is now assessing whether Tehran is prepared to make long term changes that could open the way to improved relations between Iran and the United States.

Vance warned that if Iran does not agree to the changes being sought by Washington, the United States will continue applying pressure on Tehran.

His comments come as the Trump administration continues to pursue its broader strategy of preventing Iran from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities while seeking conditions that could reduce the risk of further military escalation.

The U.S. position remains focused on ensuring that Iran cannot develop a nuclear weapon, while leaving open the possibility of improved relations if Tehran agrees to long-term changes.
