Typhoon Dolphin Disrupts Travel and Triggers Flood Warnings

Chinese authorities have evacuated more than one million people from their homes across eastern China, including the financial hub of Shanghai, as Typhoon Dolphin made landfall.

The powerful storm brought torrential rain and severe weather conditions, disrupting transportation across the region. Nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled in Shanghai alone, as authorities moved to protect residents and limit the impact of the storm.

Although authorities have since downgraded Dolphin to a tropical storm, officials continue to warn of heavy rainfall, severe flooding, and possible landslides through Wednesday as the system moves north.

China had earlier issued its highest-level red alert for Typhoon Dolphin, describing it as the strongest storm to hit the country this year.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast across Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, as well as Shanghai.

Emergency services remain on high alert, with authorities monitoring rivers, flood-prone areas and vulnerable communities as the storm continues to move through eastern China.
