Jordan’s King Abdullah II Visits Australia for First Time in a Decade

Jordan’s King Abdullah II has arrived in Australia for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, with defence, regional security, trade and humanitarian cooperation expected to feature prominently in discussions.

The visit marks the monarch’s first trip to Australia in a decade and provides an opportunity for both countries to deepen diplomatic engagement amid continuing security challenges in the Middle East.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to meet King Abdullah in Canberra. The Jordanian monarch is also scheduled to hold engagements with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and senior government and parliamentary officials.

Defence and Regional Security on the Agenda

Discussions are expected to focus on defence cooperation, counterterrorism and regional stability, reflecting the two countries’ shared interest in addressing international security threats.

Humanitarian assistance is also expected to feature prominently, particularly in light of ongoing crises affecting the Middle East. Jordan has played an important role in regional humanitarian efforts and has consistently called for diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts.

Trade, Energy and Cultural Ties

Beyond security, the visit is expected to explore opportunities to expand trade and cooperation in energy, environmental issues and cultural engagement.

The two-day programme highlights efforts by Australia and Jordan to strengthen their longstanding relationship through closer political dialogue and practical cooperation across several sectors.

The visit comes as governments continue to pursue diplomatic partnerships to address shared economic and security priorities. Further details on any agreements or joint announcements are expected from the official engagements.
