In a rare and symbolic move, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited northern Gaza on Tuesday, as the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz and senior military commanders from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
During the high-level visit, Netanyahu was briefed on the latest developments in the IDF’s military campaign, including the discovery of Hamas weapons stockpiles and underground tunnel networks hidden within civilian infrastructure.
Standing alongside military personnel, the Prime Minister reiterated Israel’s strategic goals:
“Our objectives remain unchanged — to eradicate Hamas, secure the return of all hostages, and ensure that Gaza can no longer pose a threat to the people of Israel,” Netanyahu stated.
The visit comes amid ongoing military operations, with Israeli forces continuing ground and air offensives against Hamas targets. The IDF maintains that Hamas fighters are embedding themselves in densely populated civilian areas, complicating efforts to avoid civilian casualties.
Hamas, which the United States, European Union, Canada, and several other countries designate as a terrorist organization, has continued rocket fire toward Israeli territory while accusing Israel of disproportionate force in its response.
Netanyahu’s visit signals the government’s firm stance on continuing operations until all three objectives are met, despite growing international calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian access into the besieged territory.
