President Donald Trump announced Friday that a decision on who will lead the Federal Reserve is expected shortly. He emphasised that an ideal candidate would be someone who supports reducing interest rates.

“It’s coming out very soon,” Trump said while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One.

When asked about former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh, Trump noted that Warsh is “very highly thought of.” Warsh is seen as a leading contender for the role.

Earlier in the day, Trump stated that the central bank should lower interest rates by a full percentage point. He also repeated his criticism of current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, accusing him of acting too slowly in cutting rates.

Trump has frequently expressed frustration with Powell’s handling of monetary policy. The two recently met in pers
