India and Indonesia Sign Major Missile Agreement

Defence Partnership Expanded Through Multi-Sector Cooperation

India and Indonesia have signed a $630 million defence agreement for the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and Astra missiles to the Indonesian military.

The agreement was finalized in Jakarta during bilateral talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Under the deal, Indonesia will procure the BrahMos missile system through a phased acquisition programme, while Astra beyond-visual-range missiles will be integrated into the country’s Russian made Sukhoi fighter aircraft fleet.

Beyond defence cooperation, the two leaders signed nearly a dozen agreements and memorandums of understanding covering education, technology, finance, industrial development, and broader economic collaboration.

The agreement marks a significant expansion of defence ties between New Delhi and Jakarta and reflects growing strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
