The Economic Perils of Pedro Sánchez’s Globalist Push to Control the Internet

The Economic Perils of Pedro Sánchez's Globalist Push to Control the Internet

Nations prosper when information flows freely, innovation thrives without permission, and individuals – not unelected bureaucrats or Davos elites – drive progress. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s February 3, 2026 announcement of a nationwide under-16 social media ban, complete with mandatory age verification and criminal liability for platform executives, is a textbook globalist power grab dressed up as “child protection.” This isn’t about kids; it’s about control. Announced at the World Government Summit in Dubai after referencing his Davos warnings, it’s part of a coordinated international effort to tame the wild, decentralized internet. The internet was supposed to be the ultimate tool for freedom—a place where ideas could flow, markets could thrive, and regular people could challenge the system. But somewhere along the way, it got hijacked.

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez declared war on the open internet and free speech

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez declared war on the open internet and free speech. Under the guise of “safety” and “accountability,” his government is launching a full-scale assault on free speech, specifically targeting platforms that refuse to bend the knee to state-approved narratives. In a direct hit to the “freedom of reach,” Spain will now criminalize the amplification of content the state deems “illegal.” This gives the government the power to dictate how software is written. If an algorithm happens to show a truth that makes the ruling party look bad, it’s a “criminal offense.” Under the pretext of “protecting the children,” Spain is banning anyone under 16 from social media and demanding “real barriers” for age verification. This is a massive Trojan Horse for a National Digital ID. To “save the kids,” Sánchez is effectively demanding that every Spanish citizen hand over their private biometric or legal data just to scroll a feed. He has also vowed to make platform executives like Elon Musk legally accountable for what users post, effectively holding tech leaders’ personal freedom hostage. It’s a transparent attempt to force Silicon Valley (and Austin) to build “kill switches” for any content the Spanish government doesn’t like. Sánchez dropped the mask at the end, specifically naming Grok, alongside TikTok and Instagram for investigation.

Spain’s new measures affecting digital platforms and social media

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that, beginning next week, his government will introduce a series of new measures affecting digital platforms and social media. The government’s first step will be to amend Spanish law, making platform executives personally liable for various infringements that occur on their sites. Secondly, algorithmic manipulation and the amplification of illegal content will be categorised as new criminal offences under the proposed regulations. Third, a new “hate and polarization footprint” system will be introduced, designed to monitor, measure, and reveal how online platforms contribute to divisiveness and the spread of hate. Fourth, Spain will prohibit minors under 16 from accessing social media platforms. To enforce this, service providers will be required to implement robust age verification systems, moving beyond simple self-declaration mechanisms. Finally, the government will collaborate with the public prosecutor’s office to investigate and take action against violations allegedly committed by platforms including Grok, TikTok, and Instagram. Last year at the WEF, Sanchez called for the end of online anonymity — calling for every social media account to be linked to an EU Digital ID Wallet.

Spanish government threatens freedoms on the Internet

What Sánchez Actually Proposed and Why It Smells Like Globalism

These measures will turn Spain into a surveillance state under the pretext of “protection.” They are a red alarm signal for freedom of expression and privacy. Prohibition of social networks for children under 16 years of age with mandatory age verification: This is not just about children – it requires platforms to use strict controls, such as requiring ID or biometrics. It establishes a precedent to track the identity of each user, eroding anonymity and opening doors to massive data collection. What begins with minors could be extended to everyone, stifling the open debate. Then there is personal and criminal liability for platform executives: If “illegal, hateful or harmful” content is not quickly removed, those responsible could go to jail. The danger is this will force overcensorship—the platforms will erase anything minimally controversial to avoid risks, silencing political dissent, journalism and everyday opinions. Your voice could be next if you defy the status quo. The criminalization of algorithmic amplification, which means that amplifying “harmful” content through algorithms becomes a crime. But the thing is, governments will dictate what you see, burying opposing opinions and creating state-controlled echo chambers. Free exploration of ideas? Missing—replaced by curated propaganda. Platforms are now expected to monitor and report how they “feed the division.” Vague definitions of “hate” could label criticism of the government as divisive, leading to closures or fines. This is a tool to suppress the opposition. These are not safeguards; they are steps towards total control. We have seen this script before—governments arming “security” to censor their critics.

How the Internet Has Been Abused

The internet was supposed to be the ultimate tool for freedom—a place where ideas could flow, markets could thrive, and regular people could challenge the system. But somewhere along the way, it got hijacked. As one who believes in national sovereignty and free markets, I see the internet being weaponized to push globalist agendas, silence dissent, and control your financial future.

The Economic Perils of Pedro Sánchez’s Globalist Push to Control the Internet

How This Fits the International Control Agenda

This isn’t isolated. Spain joins Australia, France (under-15 ban), and looming EU-wide Digital Services Act expansions. All push age gating that inevitably requires biometric or government-linked verification – the backbone of digital IDs championed by the UN, WEF, and World Bank. Sánchez’s language mirrors globalist talking points: “digital wild west,” “addiction,” “hate speech.” Translate: Anything challenging official narratives gets labeled “harmful.” When national leaders implement identical policies after attending the same summits, it’s not coincidence – it’s coordination. Elon Musk nailed it, calling Sánchez a “tyrant” on X.

Internet Censorship and Narrative Control

First, Big Tech’s had gotten a chokehold on free speech. If you question the Federal Reserve’s money printing or call out the World Economic Forum’s ‘Great Reset,’ all the best getting heard. Platforms like pre-X Twitter and YouTube shadowbanned or outright deplatformed conservative and Christian voices—guys exposing fiat currency scams or defending gold and Bitcoin. Algorithms push corporate narratives while burying posts that challenge globalist policies. This isn’t a free market of ideas; it’s a rigged game.

t amplifies coordinated campaigns to push globalist agendas, like open borders or supranational governance (e.g., UN policies). Bots, NGOs, and corporate media flood platforms with synchronized messaging, creating artificial consensus. For example, posts criticizing globalist initiatives are often buried by algorithmically boosted counter-narratives, making it hard for conservative viewpoints to gain traction. Posts or accounts challenging progressive ideologies—on topics like family values, national borders, or traditional gender roles—are flagged, shadowbanned, or removed under vague “hate speech” or “misinformation” labels. This stifles debate and enforces a globalist cultural narrative, undermining the internet’s original promise as a free marketplace of ideas.

Internet Surveillance and Data Exploitation

Second, the internet’s turned into a surveillance machine. Every click, every purchase, every post you make is tracked by Google, Amazon, or worse, handed to governments. As a finance guy, I know privacy is power. But globalist corporations are building profiles to predict and control your financial behaviour. They’re not just selling ads—they’re selling you to the highest bidder, all while pushing centralized systems that erode your economic freedom.” Governments and tech giants use the internet to monitor behaviour, tracking everything from your searches to your social interactions. This isn’t just about finance—it’s about control. This threatens personal autonomy and the ability to live free from centralized oversight. Programs like PRISM or China’s social credit system (promoted as a model by some globalists) show how the internet can enable authoritarian overreach.

Globalists Pushing Centralized Finance through Internet Control

Third, the internet’s being used to shove centralized digital currencies down our throats. The IMF and central banks are hyping CBDCs—digital dollars they can track, control, and even freeze if you step out of line. Meanwhile, crypto advocates or anyone promoting decentralized finance gets demonetized or kicked off platforms like PayPal. The internet was supposed to empower peer-to-peer money, but it’s being twisted to lock us into a globalist financial grid.

Disinformation and Manipulation using the internet

Fourth, the internet’s a breeding ground for psyops. Bots and corporate media flood your feed with ESG propaganda or climate policies that tank small businesses and inflate costs. Try finding a viral post that questions these globalist schemes—they’re drowned out by coordinated campaigns creating fake consensus. As someone who values real markets, I see this as an attack on truth and economic independence.

Cultural Erosion and Woke Ideologies on the Internet

The internet has become a battleground for pushing progressive, globalist ideologies that clash with conservative values. Platforms amplify content promoting secularism, identity politics, or anti-traditionalist agendas, often at the expense of faith, family, or national pride. Algorithms prioritize this content, marginalizing voices that defend, Judeo-Christian principles or local customs, creating a homogenized global culture. These threats align with a globalist push to erode sovereignty, traditional values, and individual freedom—core concerns for a conservative, anti-globalist mindset. The internet, meant to empower, is instead used to control narratives, monitor behaviour, and suppress dissent, paving the way for a homogenized, centralized world order.

The only way to prevent a totalitarian takeover of society, is if there is a group of citizens with the courage and ability to speak out against the narrative. That’s why the globalists are so desperate to control censorship across social media – as they want to suppress people’s ability to speak out against the narrative by labelling it was “misinformation”.

Sanchez Is About Control, Not Protection

Sánchez’s move is a globalist trial balloon: Use “protect the children” to justify internet IDs, executive intimidation, and narrative control. Financially, it means higher costs, slower growth, capital flight, and eroded sovereignty. The internet’s open era built unprecedented wealth. Choking it transfers power from individuals to elites. Watch for contagion to other EU nations.
